Addiction to drugs and alcohol can leave the body weak. Destroying muscles, reducing strength, depleting natural energy, making bones brittle, and hurting joints, the impact can be severe. By the time a person chooses to seek residential treatment for drug and alcohol addiction, their bodies have been badly affected. Participating in regular exercise classes or fitness programmes isn’t possible. After detox the body can be even more exhausted, fighting hard to release the toxins produced by years of abuse with drugs and alcohol.

I’m an addict, I’m a gambling addict, I’m a sex addict, I’m a love addict, I’m a sex and love addict, I’m codependent, I’m an overeater, I have an eating disorder. When we introduce ourselves at twelve step meetings of any kind, we introduce ourselves in this way. We state our name and we follow it by identifying ourselves. Some people see the identification in twelve step meetings as a helpful tool for their personal program of recovery. Others see it as an intimidation or as unnecessary.

Once widely regarded as the sole treatment option for any kind of pain management necessities, doctors are now taking another careful look at opioids. Global death rates of opioid overdose have steadily risen in recent years, giving doctors a reason to reconsider their go-to prescriptions for pain management. Pain management does not have to be completely reliant upon painkiller medications, though they can play an important and even essential role in reducing the pain of pain management patients.

Two men sat by a fire in Akron, Ohio, in the United States. One, a man named Bob Smith, was a doctor who was a chronic alcoholic. He had fallen ill as a result of alcoholism, yet again. His pastors and priests, as well as his wife and children thought him to be hopeless. That was until he had the infamous night of talking with Bill Wilson, a man who had been recovering from alcoholism without a drink for six months. Sharing stories of war, professionalism, and drunken debauchery, the men also told tales of recovery and hope. Before meeting, the men didn’t know each other.

Every Time they eat sugar, they risk a serious health complication and push themselves closer to long term complications, which could result in deadly diseases. Most diabetics become extremely regimented in their diets, avoiding sugar and scrutinously managing their insulin. There are others, however, who disregard their health. Regularly, they indulge in high sugar sweets and treats, only to lead a system crash or worse repercussions.

200,000 people in Ireland are affected by eating disorders according to The Eating DIsorders Association of Ireland. Each year, 80 deaths occur as a result of eating disorders, severe mental health issues which cause extreme physical distress. Of those with eating disorders in Ireland, 85% of them are young females ranging in age from girls in their teens to young women in their early twenties. Anorexia nervosa, one of the most frequently occurring eating disorders, has one of the highest fatality rates across mental health disorders.

The 2017 Global Drugs Survey has revealed that Ireland is the world’s leading consumer of MDMA, a party drug commonly known as ecstasy. 39.7 percent of respondents admitted taking MDMA either in pill form, its most popular form, or using in powder form, a relatively new development, within the last twelve months. Compared to the 2016 results, however, the numbers, though shocking, are an improvement. In 2016, 58 percent of Irish respondents had taken MDMA.
